Heavy rainfall in northern Italy has led to speculation that this weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix will have to be cancelled, as mother nature unleashes her wrath on southern Europe.
The 2023 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix has been suspended due to heavy rainfall in northern Italy, with suggestions that the event has been defnitely cancelled.
Several areas surrounding Imola are currently subject to intense rainfall, and the heavy rain is expected to continue until approximately Wednesday evening.
Sources present at Imola were told to leave the circuit on Tuesday, although this was believed to be a precautionary measure rather than due to any immediate risk.
The circuit remains closed until further notice, and the below images and videos from in and around Imola illustrate the seriousness of the situation.
On Wednesday 17th May, F1 officially called the Grand Prix off owing to the conditions, meaning the 2023 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix will not go ahead this weekend.
