The Health and Social Security Commission of the State Congress is considering the possibility that the Government of Yucatan, led by Mauricio Vila Dosal, allocates a specific budget for the breast reconstruction of women who have survived cancer.
The initiative was proposed by the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and specifically by legislator Karla Franco Blanco, who in her proposal puts on the table the need for a free breast reconstruction program in this state.
The commission led by Dafne López Osorio has already begun to follow up on this issue, and has therefore requested an estimated budget from the Administration and Finance Secretariat (SAF) of the Executive Branch by official letter in order to create a free breast reconstruction program for women who have undergone mastectomy as part of their treatment against breast cancer.
With this information, they can take the first step towards achieving an initiative with a better proposal and a specific cause “for the benefit of Yucatecan women who have suffered from this deadly disease,” said the PAN member López Osorio.
Breast reconstruction also stipulates that women receive rehabilitation that includes actions aimed at facilitating a person to achieve an optimal physical, mental, and sensory level to compensate for the loss of a function.
This includes the implementation of prevention actions, such as campaigns aimed at informing students in basic and upper secondary education levels about methods and actions for early detection of breast cancer.
