As part of the National Public Security Strategy and the Zero Impunity Policy, members of the National Guard (GN) in Mexico City seized a box with apparent peyote plants, an endemic cactus from Mexico that is protected under the Mexican Official Standard (NOM) 059 Semarnat-2010.
As part of strategic actions to prevent the trafficking and distribution of narcotics, currency, and firearms, a canine unit consisting of a dog and its handler, after prior authorization, entered a courier company located in the Azcapotzalco municipality of Mexico City.
After conducting preventive searches on several packages, the dog showed a change in behavior towards a cardboard box from Torreon, Coahuila destined for Chimalhuacan, State of Mexico, indicating the presence of a prohibited object or substance.
The members of the institution separated the shipment to carry out a thorough inspection and found inside the box, apparent peyote plants, an endemic cactus from Mexico that is listed as a special protection species (Pr) in the NOM 059 Semarnat-2010, making its commercialization illegal.
The shipment was handed over to the Federal Public Ministry Agency, where the corresponding investigations will continue.
The National Guard reaffirms its commitment to eradicate the distribution of all types of substances that affect the health of the population in the country.
