With the aim of highlighting the fundamental role that education plays in the development of society, the Progreso City Council, led by Julián Zacarías Curi, celebrated all teachers on their day by presenting the Distinguished Teacher 2023 award.
In an emotional ceremony held at the Art, Education, Culture, and History Promenade, the mayor unveiled the commemorative plaque that highlights the long and fruitful career of Pedro Enrique Gutiérrez Domínguez, a teacher who, among other achievements, contributed to the founding of the first elementary school in the rural community of Flamboyanes and the first special education school in Progreso, where he continued to work until his retirement. “The work of education that you have carried out for years has allowed you to educate many generations of students who are now contributing to the benefit of Progreso. That is the great contribution that teachers make to society, and today we want to recognize you for it,” said Zacarías Curi in congratulating the recipient of this distinction.
To promote quality education throughout the municipality, the Progreso City Council carries out continuous actions aimed at reducing educational lag, promoting reading, and fostering values that contribute to healthy coexistence among students, working in coordination with parents and teachers.
