Renán Barrera, the municipal president, boasted that Mérida is among the best cities in the world.
It ranks fourth, surpassing Montreal, Istanbul, Cusco, Mumbai, Cape Town, and Quebec, according to the Reader’s Choice Awards ranking by Condé Nast Traveler magazine.
“Without a doubt, our city is a symbol of culture, safety, nature, and development, where everyone can enjoy its public and historical spaces,” he said.
The magazine highlighted the UNESCO World Heritage archaeological sites such as Uxmal and Chichén Itzá, as well as the beaches on the Gulf coast in Progreso.
