What is the origin of hamburgers?

According to the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Mexican Gastronomy, the hamburger was introduced to the United States by settlers of German origin who arrived in the 19th century.

Some historians claim that the direct ancestor of hamburgers is Rundstück warm, a dish that was created around the 17th century in Hamburg bakeries that began to produce a round bun that was served with leftover pork and gravy.
