No more permits for Pig Farms in Yucatan (Mauricio Vila)

Work is underway to comply with court orders regarding suspensions and correct operation, Mauricio Vila points out.

Given the problems generated by the high number of pig farms in Yucatan, new permits are not being granted for the installation of these businesses, the governor of that state, Mauricio Vila Dosal, declared.

Present in the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, where progress was made on section 3 of the Mayan Train, which passes through that state, Governor Vila indicated that there is already a diagnosis from the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources on the effects to the environment of this type of farms, which according to the dependency will reach 500.

In recent months, the problem has been denounced from these spaces due to contamination and damage to the environment and the health of people that pig farming has generated, especially due to the feces of these animals.

Although he noted that there are other judicial verdicts where it has been decreed that the farms work correctly, so those places must also continue working.

Vila Dosal said that the relocation of several farms and other strategies have been considered to counteract the problems caused.

For his part, President López Obrador pointed out that joint work is being carried out between Semarnat and the government of Yucatán on this problem and “much progress has been made.”
