MÉRIDA, Yucatan, May 17, 2023.- In Yucatan, a thousand bilingual professionals graduate annually, so there is a high deficit to meet the demand that companies installed in the entity request, said Julian Morales Rivas, president of the National Chamber of Electronics Industry, Telecommunications and Information Technology (CANIETI) in the Southeast.
Morales Rivas indicated that approximately four thousand bilingual profiles are needed per year, to cover the 12 thousand vacancies that exist and the objective is to cover them in the next three years, so concrete actions are being taken to reduce the lag that the state has in terms of the English language.
“CANIETI’s objective with the state English agenda is that from elementary school they are given subjects completely in English, that from an early age they become familiar with the language, hear the terms, and that the teachers only use English so that the students normalize the language,” he said.
He stressed that for this it is important to hire more teachers, prepare them and become professional in the teaching of the language, not only in private schools, but also in public schools and turn English into a fundamental subject and not a filler.
“There is an important lag and we must work on them, so that English becomes a priority subject and not just another requirement that they ask for in the sixth semester just to get a degree, but that it becomes a constant during the studies”, he indicated.
He explained that the most advanced states, in terms of bilingual professionals, are in the north of the country, particularly Monterrey, where, he said, most people speak English and that is the goal for Yucatán.
