Mayor Renán Barrera Concha reported that work on the Touristic and Gastronomic Corridor of 47th Street is progressing on schedule and is expected to be completed by August, paving the way for the transformation of the area’s image in the coming weeks.

He mentioned that the Public Works Department has already begun pouring the concrete for the structure of the pavement, where basaltex-type porphyry bricks will be installed as the finishing touch for the roadway.

“The State Government and the Municipality are working together to give a new urban image to the historic center, which will also establish Mérida as a tourist destination by providing a space to enjoy its architectural, gastronomic, and cultural richness. This will strengthen our economy and provide more recreational areas for the residents,” he expressed.

Currently, the Municipality is following the work schedule prepared by the Public Works Department, and this week they started placing the concrete on the road surface in the first section of 47th Street between 56th and 54th Streets.

He explained that once the brick installation is completed in that section, they will proceed with the installation of underground ducts and subsequently begin constructing the sidewalks.

He recalled that for the completion of these works, the Municipality has a total of 13 contracts, in addition to the eleven participating companies responsible for installing the telephone, gas, and water systems.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the Municipality, through the Public Works Department, is working hand in hand with the residents and commercial sector of the area to develop the project harmoniously, as it will contribute to the city’s economic development.

Finally, he reiterated his willingness to listen to and address concerns from residents and businesses arising from the ongoing works through the Field Office and Citizen Service, located on 47th Street between 50th and 52nd Streets, where accurate information about the progress of the Touristic and Gastronomic Corridor section is provided.
