In Mexico City’s Zócalo 150 stands with more than 250 exhibitors and 800 artisans representing 20 municipalities, Yucatán will be exhibiting its culture in the nation’s capital.
Yucatán Governor Mauricio Vila said that the “Yucatán Expone” event begins this Friday, May 12 and will end on Sunday, May 21. Those interested can go to the Mexico City Zócalo from 10 am to 9 pm to visit the 150 stands of textile artisans, guayaberas, blouses, footwear, jewelry, snacks, fried foods and liquors from Yucatán.
“We are bringing four restaurants that will be serving cochinita pibil, panucho, sopa de lima, we are going to break the record for tons of cochinita pibil sold,” said the governor.
He also announced that at 12:30 and 6:30 p.m. there will be cultural events with orchestras and soloists, as well as shows by regional comedians.
Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico City’s Chief of Government, highlighted that the zócalo of the country’s capital is the capital of all Mexicans, “here there is a piece of each state”.
During her speech at the Antiguo Palacio del Ayuntamiento, she said that the capital city does not belong to those who live here, because it is the heritage of all Mexicans.
He emphasized that thanks to the good relationship between the state of Yucatan and the government of Mexico City, a collaboration agreement was signed for different topics, but particularly for tourism.
“I was saying the good relationship with Yucatan because regardless of the fact that we come from different parties, the most important thing is always to represent the citizens and open Mexico City to all the inhabitants of the country,” he said.
