Progreso, Yucatan, the most important port in the state, which has now become a popular tourist destination and home to a thriving community, is preparing to celebrate its 152nd anniversary in a grand manner.

With that purpose in mind, the Municipal Government of Progreso, led by Julián Zacarías Curi, has announced a series of activities for the enjoyment of local residents and visitors from June 29th to July 2nd.

The schedule of events begins on Thursday, June 29th at 6 p.m. with the “Rodada Por Progreso” bike ride on the Traditional Pier, followed by beach soccer and volleyball games at 7:30 p.m. on the International Pier.

On Friday, June 30th, there will be a recital at 6 p.m. featuring poems by Nilde Pérez de Palma and the photo exhibition “Progreso Through the Years.” Additionally, there will be a Bohemian Night with the special participation of the group “Trovanova, the Troubadours of Yucatan” at 7:30 p.m. These events will take place at the esplanade of the Casa de la Cultura and the Art Gallery “Alfredo Novelo Ceballos.”

Furthermore, on Friday, June 30th, and Saturday, July 1st, the EFEC Collective Fair will be held with product stalls and recreational activities on the International Pier starting at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, July 1st, a solemn session will be held at 9 a.m. in the Juarez Hall of the Municipal Palace, followed by a civic ceremony at the Juan Miguel Castro monument on the Traditional Pier at 10 a.m. At the same location, the official certification of the Guinness World Record for the Longest Pier in the World will be announced at 10:30 a.m.

Finally, on Sunday, July 2nd, the activities will conclude with the Kibi Cake Fair starting at 9 a.m. at the Casa de la Cultura. With these cultural, sports, and gastronomic events, Progreso continues to write its history and transform for the better.

It is worth noting that on July 1st, 1871, the port of Progreso was founded as a town, and the trade of both national and international goods was established.
