On Tuesday, June 27th, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico, defended the policy that considers natural gas as a source of clean energy.

“This has already been done internationally because one thing is what is desirable and another is what is possible. It is desired that fossil fuels are no longer used, that oil or derivatives are not used, but the transition process or going to clean, renewable energy takes time, ”he argued.

This is about the decree of the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), which changed the regulation to consider generated with natural gas as clean energy, which brought criticism from environmentalists.

In this sense, Amlo recognized that natural gas is a fossil fuel and accused China, the United States, and Germany of using coal after the energy crisis caused by the war between Russia and Ukraine.

“That is why it is decreed that gas is an energy in transition towards clean energy. An energy (policy) that (considers) gas as a fuel that can be used and is not considered dirty energy or energy of oil origin, ” the president concluded.
