In front of students from public universities throughout the state, within the framework of the Transforma Yucatán Expo, Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal presented the actions that are making the transformation of the region a reality, thanks to the teamwork carried out by all the people of Yucatán.

From the “Siglo XXI” Convention Center, university students acknowledged the work of Vila Dosal, who is making the region become its best version by transforming public transportation services, boosting the economy, generating employment, and promoting significant projects that foster development.

Accompanied by the Mayor of Mérida, Renán Barrera Concha, Vila Dosal shared the actions that are transforming the state and have led it to experience a historic moment, as 2021 was the year with the highest economic growth and job creation in its entire history.

Likewise, in 2022, Yucatán recorded the highest foreign direct investments, tourist arrivals, and security, with the lowest crime rate, and February 2023 had the highest salaries ever recorded.

Regarding the promotion of higher education, the Governor mentioned that the State English Agenda encourages English proficiency from preschool to higher education, with bilingual environments in schools in various municipalities.

Additionally, the International Mobility Program was created through agreements with universities in Canada and the United States, through which 170 students were sent in 2022, 340 in 2023, and 500, along with professors, will be sent in 2024.

In the presence of the Secretary of Research, Innovation, and Higher Education (SIIES), Mauricio Cámara Leal, and the rector of the Metropolitan Technological University (UTM), María Isabel Rodríguez Heredia, Vila Dosal emphasized that efforts have been made to promote Yucatán like never before.

Out of that package, he added, 150 projects are being implemented in the interior of the state because in this administration, they are telling companies that want to come to Yucatán that they are welcome, but they want to generate employment in the interior and thus increase the chances of finding good jobs closer to home.

He also presented the strategic projects being developed in the state towards 2024, such as the expansion of the Mérida International Airport and the Progreso Bypass. The latter project began today with the construction of a 2.7-kilometer elevated viaduct, which will reduce traffic, congestion, accidents, road deterioration, noise, and pollution.

Having infrastructure that allows us to be more competitive is crucial, not only in Mexico but worldwide. That is why we are expanding the Port of Progreso to improve its connectivity and accommodate larger commercial ships or cruise liners, he emphasized.

Furthermore, he stated that they are transforming mobility with the Ie-Tram, which is part of the “Va y ven” (Come and Go) System. Yucatán will have the first 100% electric route in southeastern Mexico and the only one of its kind in Latin America, connecting Kanasín, Umán, and Mérida with world-class units.

Barrera Concha, on his part, emphasized that in order to transform the future of Mérida, it is necessary for young people to get involved and participate in their areas of interest because they are not the future but the present of Yucatán. That’s why everyone has the power to care for and enhance development.

Fifteen years after the mayor and the governor decided to work together to transform the state, the mayor highlighted that every day they contribute their best efforts in public service to achieve this goal, with the opportunity to innovate and improve the lives of citizens through various programs such as Parques en Línea (Online Parks), En Bici (By Bike), Noche Blanca (White Night), Cruzadas Forestales (Forest Crusades), and Centros de Emprendedores (Entrepreneur Centers).

Afterward, the Governor presented awards to students with the highest grades from public universities, and the young people listened to the conference “Yo vendo goles” (I Sell Goals) by successful entrepreneur Patricio Villalobos Cuevas, one of the founders of MedioTiempo.com and Underdog.

Underdog is the company behind brands such as Juan Fútbol, Juan Béisbol, Tiki Taka, Penta, Frida, among others. It also handles strategy and produces content for top sports names worldwide, including the NBA, NFL, and the New England Patriots.
