The president of the Human Rights Commission of the State of Yucatán (Codhey), Miguel Óscar Sabido Santana, revealed that during the operations carried out by the State Police of Investigation (PEI) of Yucatán against an alleged human trafficking gang involved in child labor exploitation, minors of Central American origin were also rescued.
The ombudsman indicated that in order to guarantee the human rights of the minors during the raids carried out in downtown Mérida last week, they participated in the rescue of 20 underage individuals, as well as women and elderly adults.
In that regard, he stated that in addition to girls and boys of Chiapaneco origin, the operations also led to the rescue of children from Guatemala.
Sabido Santana clarified that these were not undocumented migrant children in the country but rather had the necessary documents to be in Mexican territory.
