In the state, due to the heatwave, convenience stores, supermarkets, and even factories are experiencing a shortage of ice due to high demand. Although the problem is widespread across the peninsula, business managers assure that sales have surged by 80 percent.

The high temperatures in the region have caused various issues, ranging from heat strokes and respiratory problems to irritability. However, another problem arising from this situation is the lack of ice and even water in some neighborhoods of the capital.

Over the past weekend, social media users shared their difficulty in finding ice in several convenience stores and supermarkets.

“The problem started last week. We had some reserves, but with the intense heat, people are buying 2 or 3 bags at a time. Sales increased by 80 percent, and we ran out of stock,” said Genaro Rivas C, the manager of a convenience store located in the south of the city.

He stated that although the problem is due to the lack of supply, the product will be available in stores again in a few days at the regular price of between 30 and 40 pesos.

José Moo, another store manager, explained that weekly sales of ice bags went from 110 to almost 200, while the sale of water jugs increased from 10 per day to 15.

An ice factory located in the eastern part of the city reported that power outages caused by various blackouts have affected their production.

The problem is not limited to the state but also persists in other southeastern states and parts of the northern region of the country.
