MÉRIDA, Yucatan, June 10, 2023 – Approximately 25 thousand people gathered this afternoon to celebrate the March for Sexual Diversity, the contingent departed from the Monumento a la Patria to the main square where the show would take place, this year’s theme was Identity and Rights.
This year’s Pride focused on local talent, unlike last year when they brought several artists known throughout the country, likewise focused on the visibility and struggle for the rights of the trans community.
The parade covered the entire Paseo de Montejo and for a few hours was filled with colors, glitter, music and banners demanding rights for the entire LGBTQ+ community.
During the speech, they remembered Alfredo Candiani, activist and defender of the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as Sandra Peniche who was also one of the precursors of the struggle in Yucatan.
They called for the approval in Congress of the Gender Identity Law, which they said is a non-partisan but always political struggle.
The Pride celebration was concentrated in the Plaza Grande where all the diversity clubs would be participating with shows.
