On Friday night, the mayor of Progreso, Julian Zacarías, threw the first pitch in the opening game of the series between Leones de Yucatán and Mariachis de Guadalajara at Kukulkan Alamo Park.

The mayor of Progreso, known for his love of sports and commitment to the community, was invited to perform the inaugural pitch, accompanied by Carlos Sáenz Castillo, the director of the Yucatán State Sports Institute (IDEY).

Dressed in the jersey of Leones de Yucatán, Julian Zacarías showed his enthusiasm as he walked to the mound to make the symbolic throw. With the attentive gaze of thousands of fans of the Leones team, he threw the ball straight to the catcher with a smooth motion, receiving a loud applause from the audience.

“Baseball is part of our identity as Yucatecans, and we are always proud to see Leones represent our state with so much talent and effort,” expressed the mayor. “In Progreso, we are promoting sports and working to provide our youth with opportunities for growth and development through these disciplines,” he added.

The game between Leones de Yucatán and Mariachis de Guadalajara resulted in a fierce competition that kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the last pitch.
