There is great consternation surrounding the disappearance of a man who allegedly was found dead inside a shopping plaza in Mérida.
According to preliminary reports, the body could belong to Ricardo Garrido Suástegui, 40 years old, who was reported missing about six days ago.
As we previously reported, the man was reported missing on May 26th, and following an extensive investigation, authorities from the State Investigation Police (PEI) Homicide and Injury Division, as well as personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), went to a safe store located in Plaza Altana, in the Francisco de Montejo neighborhood, where the man worked.
Although the authorities have not officially confirmed the incident, it was unofficially reported that at the request of the authorities, employees of the company ‘Cajas Fuertes Mérida’ were called to open the store, as the investigation into the man’s disappearance indicated that he was inside the establishment.
Upon opening the store, the lifeless body of Garrido Suástegui was found. However, the cause of death has not been disclosed, and investigations are underway to determine whether he was a victim of a crime or if it was a pathological or self-inflicted death.
As of the time of this report, there has been a significant police mobilization in the mentioned shopping plaza, with officers from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) cordoning off the area, while personnel from the FGE are responsible for the removal of the body and conducting relevant investigations.
