The Municipality of Mérida, led by Renán Barrera Concha, is taking care of the health of the elderly in the Municipality through actions that improve their quality of life, provide greater independence, and promote physical activity.
In the first Macro Physical Activation event organized by the Municipal DIF after the pandemic, held at La Mejorada Park, over 750 elderly people attended and enjoyed a joyful atmosphere with musical rhythms, dynamics, and Tai Chi and Capoeira routines.
Accompanied by health students from various public and private universities, as well as instructors, Diana Castillo Laviada, the president of the Municipal DIF, expressed gratitude to all the participants who enthusiastically joined this macro activation with energy and enthusiasm.
Furthermore, Castillo Laviada invited everyone to incorporate and maintain physical activity in their daily lives because it offers great benefits for health care.
“At the Municipality of Mérida, through the Municipal DIF, we work to provide you with attention and services so that you can continue enjoying life, but above all, so that life can be fulfilling,” she said.
She emphasized that this activity is part of the public policies promoted by the Municipal DIF, which are focused on self-care culture and the prevention of diseases among the elderly.
She recalled that Mérida’s interest in promoting the well-being of this population segment led the World Health Organization (WHO) to grant it the distinction of an age-friendly city.
She reiterated that the Macro Physical Activation represents a fun and effective option for attendees to prevent diseases, enhance their independence, and improve their quality of life.
Jorge García García, a beneficiary of the Integral Center for the Fulfillment of the Elderly “Renacer,” expressed gratitude to the Municipality and the Municipal DIF for all the physical, educational, cognitive, and social participation activities they offer, as they allow them to continue learning and enjoying life.
Verónica Loeza Guerra, a participant in the event, thanked the Mayor for designing programs and actions focused on keeping them active.
Concepción Elizabeth Ortiz Manzanilla, another participant, mentioned that exercising helps improve the health of all her fellow participants, and it also provides the additional benefits of social interaction and joy.
As part of the protective measures for the participants, the Municipal DIF set up hydration stations and assigned medical personnel to provide prompt and timely care if needed.
During the macro activation, institutions and universities set up service tables to promote programs and services aimed at the elderly, with the objective of improving their quality of life and health care.
