MÉRIDA, Yucatan, June 8, 2023.- The Merida Municipal Police is celebrating 20 years of service to the citizens and to recognize their work, a ceremony was held in which the mayor of the city, Renán Barrera Concha, presented awards to 97 elements for their performance.

Of these 97 municipal police officers, 67 were for 20 years of service, another 24 for 15 years of service and finally six were recognized for 10 years of service in the ranks of the Municipal Police.

The mayor of Merida did not miss the opportunity to thank the entire police force for the work they do to maintain security in the city, which contributes greatly to Merida being recognized for being safe. He noted that this work is demanding and that the police officers sacrifice time with their families for the benefit of the population.

“Merida is recognized nationally and internationally, as a result of the efforts and coordinated work we have done among the different levels of authorities in the state, focusing on maintaining our public safety with high standards,” he said.

A professional corporation, close to the citizens, with full respect for human rights, is how the mayor defined the city’s police force, noting that in the last Urban Public Safety Survey (ENSU) the Merida police had a 75.8 percent perception of security and only 24.2 percent in perception of insecurity, in contrast to the country’s average of 62.1 percent.

For his part, the commander of the Merida Municipal Police, Mario Arturo Romero Escalante, thanked all the officers for their efforts in maintaining security in the city.

“We are a police force with enough maturity to face and act before any contingency as well as to take preventive actions in our municipality”.
