Today, a dry line over northern Mexico, the subtropical jet stream, two areas of low pressure (one extending over the north and center of the country, and the other over the southeast and the Yucatan Peninsula), interacting with upper-level atmospheric instability, the influx of moisture from the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea, and the displacement of tropical wave number 2 south of the coast of Guerrero, will cause heavy rainfall in Oaxaca, Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo, as well as rain showers, along with strong winds and possible dust storms over the northwest, north, northeast, west, and central parts of the national territory, including the Valley of Mexico, according to the report from the National Meteorological Service (SMN).
Specifically in the Yucatan Peninsula, clear skies and mild to warm temperatures are expected at dawn. In the afternoon, it will be hot with cloudy skies, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and possible hail in Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo. The rain could cause ponding and flooding. Southeast winds of 15 to 30 km/h with gusts of 40 to 60 km/h and possible dust storms in the region.
Meanwhile, meteorologist Juan Antonio Palma indicates that another week begins with intense heat in much of the peninsula and the state of Tabasco, with heat index values exceeding 45°C. Rainfall will be moderate to heavy due to the influx of tropical maritime air.
It is expected that during the beginning of this week, there will be some precipitation due to the entry of moist air from the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico.
The rainfall will range from moderate to heavy intensity (5 to 25 mm) and will likely be accompanied by abundant electrical activity, strong winds, and isolated hail, although their distribution will be scattered in the states of Yucatan, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Chiapas, and Veracruz.
