A family of five Mexicans died when the helicopter in which they were traveling to Mount Everest crashed.

Two adults and three minors died, as well as the Nepalese pilot. The deceased Mexican tourists are Fernando Sifuentes, Abril Gonzalez, Luz Gonzalez Olacio, Maria Jose Sifuentes, and Ismael Rincon.

Captain Chet Bahadur Gurung of Manang Air, was an experienced pilot, according to Manang Air’s fan page.

The helicopter went out of contact on Tuesday morning and then crashed in Lamjura’s Chihandanda, which lies between the areas of Jiri and Phaplu. The crash is believed to have been caused by bad weather.

The six deceased were located but heavy rains are hampering efforts to transport the bodies to the Nepalese capital, Nepal’s deputy district superintendent said.

Preparations are underway to airlift the bodies to Kathmandu after completing the necessary documentation. According to the vice chairman of the rural municipality, Nwang Lhakpa Sherpa, locals were the first to report the helicopter crash in Chihandanda at Lamjura in Bhakanje village.

Manang Air helicopter pilot Chet Bahadur Gurung flew from Solukhumbu to Kathmandu on Tuesday morning. He had flown helicopters for nearly 7,000 hours in the skies of Nepal.
