A woman met a tragic end after deciding to seek shelter from the rain without realizing that death awaited her underneath a bridge on the Mérida peripheral road.
The incident occurred on Monday, July 3rd, when rain made its presence known in various parts of the city of Mérida.
Due to the intensity of the rainfall, a woman riding her motorcycle decided to take refuge from the downpour beneath the bridge of the Mérida-Umán highway, on the western peripheral road of Mérida.
The woman stopped her motorcycle and waited for the rain to lessen in intensity before continuing her journey, unaware that she would encounter death right under the bridge.
The motorcyclist, who remains unidentified at the moment, was struck by a cargo truck after the wet pavement caused the heavy vehicle to skid and collide with the motorcyclist.
Due to the strong impact, the woman was thrown from her vehicle and suffered injuries that instantly took her life.
It is worth mentioning that officers from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) arrived promptly at the scene, as well as paramedics who attempted to save her life. However, nothing could be done; the woman was already deceased.
Finally, the area was cordoned off awaiting the removal of the body, while the driver of the truck was detained.
