A driver had a tremendous scare when his pickup truck was dragged by a locomotive at the Tren Maya construction site. The incident occurred on the Ekmul-Tixkokob highway when a Ford pickup truck was traveling towards Ekmul. At a certain moment, it reached the railway tracks and accelerated to beat the train.
Unfortunately, the gravel-loaded locomotive was faster than the daring driver and collided with the rear of the vehicle. The pickup truck was unable to continue moving and was dragged for a few meters until the operator of the machine activated the brakes and stopped it.
Unfortunately, the material damages were significant. As the pickup truck was being dragged, it also took two motorcycles that were parked nearby, belonging to Tren Maya employees.
Fortunately, no human losses were reported as there were no injuries. However, due to the strong impact, the pickup truck driver had to be attended to by paramedics from the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública (Public Security Secretariat) as he experienced a nervous crisis.
It is worth mentioning that due to the serious accident at the Tren Maya construction site, the Txkokob to Ekmul road was closed to vehicular traffic. The public was advised to take alternative routes and exercise caution. Likewise, the population is urged to respect the train’s right of way to avoid such accidents. While this particular incident did not have a fatal outcome, it could have been much worse.
