In this article, we’ll guide you through a delightful recipe that will tantalize your taste buds and fill your home with the aromas of Italy.

Classic Tiramisu

Ingredients:

  • 6 egg yolks
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅔ cup whole milk
  • 1 ¼ cups heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • 2 cups strong brewed coffee or espresso, cooled
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting

Instructions:

  1. In a heatproof bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until well combined.
  2. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water, creating a double boiler. Make sure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the bowl.
  3. Slowly whisk in the milk and continue stirring until the mixture thickens, resembling a custard-like consistency. This process may take around 10 minutes.
  4. Remove the bowl from heat and let the custard cool to room temperature.
  5. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  6. Gently fold the mascarpone cheese into the whipped cream until well incorporated.
  7. Once the custard has cooled, fold it into the whipped cream and mascarpone mixture until smooth and creamy.
  8. Dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee or espresso, allowing them to soak briefly without becoming overly saturated.
  9. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in a single layer at the bottom of a serving dish.
  10. Spread a layer of the creamy mixture over the ladyfingers.
  11. Repeat the process, creating additional layers of soaked ladyfingers and creamy mixture until all ingredients are used.
  12. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld.
  13. Just before serving, dust the top layer of the tiramisu with cocoa powder.
  14. Slice and serve this classic Italian treat to savor a taste of Italy in your own home.

Tips and Variations:

  • For an extra twist, add a splash of Amaretto or Marsala wine to the coffee or espresso used for dipping the ladyfingers.
  • Experiment with different toppings such as shaved dark chocolate or a sprinkle of cinnamon for added flavor and visual appeal.
  • Serve chilled tiramisu alongside a cup of freshly brewed Italian coffee or a glass of sweet dessert wine to complete the experience.
