A severe accident occurred in the port of Progreso, leaving a child with a mangled foot and a head injury.
The incident took place at the intersection of 33rd Street and 56th Street in the port of Progreso on Sunday at noon. An Italika motorcycle was traveling on 33rd Street when a Caravan-type van failed to obey the stop sign at the intersection with 56th Street and collided with it.
The motorcycle was carrying two 25-year-old women, a minor, and several purchases.
Due to the strong impact, the occupants of the motorcycle were thrown off and fell onto the pavement, along with the groceries they were carrying.
After the collision, residents of the neighborhood came out to see what had happened and noticed the accident, being shocked by the injuries sustained by the child, who was screaming in pain.
As they approached to see what had happened, they noticed that half of the child’s left foot was hanging loosely, prompting a neighbor identified as M. de L.C.M. to pick up the child and take him under a tree to provide first aid, while the women were lying on the pavement in a state of shock.
It is worth mentioning that in addition to the foot injury, the child had a laceration on the cheek.
After assisting the child, the woman asked for help from her 7-year-old granddaughter, who called 911 to report the incident.
On the other hand, a group of neighbors started to confront the occupants of the van, who turned out to be seven women claiming to be foreigners. They stated that they had only parked their vehicle and waited for the authorities without attempting to take the injured child to a hospital despite his injuries.
Finally, an ambulance from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) arrived to attend to the injured individuals and transported the child to a hospital.
It was revealed that the child required surgery and would need to undergo physical therapy for approximately seven months in order to regain mobility in their limb.
It is worth mentioning that relatives of the injured individuals arrived to exert pressure on the driver and hold her accountable for the medical expenses of the injured women and child.
