Hollywood is paralyzed as the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) joins the strike of the Writers Guild, demanding a salary increase and protection against the use of artificial intelligence in productions.
Both guilds and the studios had until Thursday to reach an agreement, but since it was not achieved, the national committee of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) “voted unanimously to launch a strike order against the studios and streaming platforms.”
This strike, unseen since 1960, has halted major productions such as the third installment of Deadpool, as well as “Gladiator,” “Avatar,” “Ghostbusters,” and “Beetlejuice,” among others. It has also affected series such as “The Last of Us,” “The Mandalorian,” “Cobra Kai,” and “Stranger Things.”
Mark Ruffalo, Jason Sudeikis, and Sean Astin are some of the actors who have expressed their support, and even the cast of Christopher Nolan’s latest film left the premiere in solidarity.
Fran Drescher, president of the SAG, fiercely criticized the studios and streaming platforms, stating that they are greedy entities, claiming “they are losing money left and right when they are handing hundreds of millions of dollars to their executives.”
