Mérida will expand its cultural offerings with the upcoming opening of a new space that will allow the artistic community to showcase their talent and invigorate the local artistic scene, further establishing the city as a cultural reference in the country.
The Nina Shestakova Theater of the Arts is a newly adapted space located inside the Municipal Dance Center, which will be inaugurated in the coming days. The Cultural Department announces that this new venue will serve the artistic community and provide enjoyment for all Mérida residents and visitors.
The Theater of the Arts is situated on the second floor of the Municipal Dance Center building and features 180 seats arranged in stepped rows, a proscenium curtain, and a wooden stage suitable for various cultural events.
It includes an air-conditioned dressing room with 12 individual spaces, each equipped with illuminated mirrors.
In terms of audio equipment, it has a 32-channel console, wireless microphones, stage monitors, and a sound system for the hall. For lighting, it is equipped with ellipsoidal lights, LED spotlights, and a lighting bar.
The stage dimensions are as follows: a proscenium opening of 7.80 meters, a depth of 7.67 meters, and legs (side curtains) with a width of 1.50 meters.
In accordance with Civil Protection regulations, the theater is equipped with signage, fire extinguishers, an entrance, emergency exits, and a terrace adorned with ornamental plants.
The facility will soon have an accessible area for individuals with mobility impairments, aiming to provide an inclusive and equal space for everyone to enjoy the arts.
The theater is named after Nina Shestakova, a renowned artist born in Moscow who chose Mérida as her home and played a significant role in the early development of classical dance education in the city.
