A new operation was unleashed at sea, this time involving a recreational vessel with crew members who found themselves in danger and needed to activate the 911 alert to be assisted by the Mexican Navy through the thirteenth naval zone.
On this occasion, it was a yacht that had been reported missing shortly after leaving the neighboring port of Telchac. Currently, there is constant activity at sea and on land with this type of vessel, as the influx of tourists and temporary residents to the coast has led to this situation.
The operation took place during the early hours of Sunday, after the Navy received a call from the State Secretary of Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture reporting that they had lost contact with a yacht that had departed from the mentioned port, in a fishing area 35 NM northwest of the said port.
In response, a “Defender” type boat from the Yucalpeten search and rescue naval station immediately set sail and began the search for the yacht with six crew members on board, who had already been adrift for approximately ten hours.
After less than an hour of monitoring by sea and land, the group of men was found aboard the vessel, anchored 35 NM northwest of Telchac. Upon the arrival of the Navy personnel, it was reported that the reason for the mishap was a power failure in the interior system.
The actions undertaken by the Navy included medical personnel attending to the individuals, whose health was found to be in good condition. In terms of operations, the necessary repairs were made.
Finally, the crew received support and accompaniment for their return to the port of Telchac. Despite the yacht needing repairs over several days, the six crew members were warmly welcomed by their loved ones.
