The construction works for the Great Park of La Plancha continue to progress favorably as scheduled, and they already show an advancement of over 85%. This was confirmed by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal during an observation visit to this space, a result of cooperation with the federal and municipal governments. The park is set to become a place for family gatherings, with significant attractions to further boost tourism and the local economy.

Accompanied by the commander of the X Military Region, Major General Homero Mendoza Ruiz, Vila Dosal walked through the main areas of this project, which represents an investment of more than 1.3 billion pesos. Covering over 22 hectares, the park will offer a wide range of attractions and areas for wholesome interaction and recreation for locals and visitors to Yucatán.

With Mayor of Mérida, Renán Barrera Concha, by his side, the Governor also visited the linear promenade, the area with train carriages, and those areas where significant attractions will be located, such as the Gastronomic Market, the Skatepark, the Museum, a circular promenade, an artificial lake, an auditorium, and an amphitheater.

Guided by the resident engineer, Colonel Herminio Jiménez Velázquez, Vila Dosal observed the state of the bicycle path and the gardens where the grass is already growing, and part of the 500 trees that will be planted. He also saw the nearly 50-meter flagpole from which the National Flag will wave inside the park.

It is worth noting that the entire area is divided into 4 sections, with green spaces, covered walkways, bicycle paths, a 10,000-seat amphitheater, a boardwalk, a Pet Park area, an outdoor gym, and sports areas, a cycle track, relocated housing areas, the Museum of Light, the Railroad Museum, 8 children’s play areas, a skating rink, and a station for the Ie-Tram, which will transport passengers arriving at Teya on the Tren Maya to the city center.

The first section will host the outdoor gym, train carriage concessions, and the engine house. In the second section, there will be children’s play areas, an interactive fountain, and dining areas. The third section will have access points, a water mirror, a skate park, a pet park, and a gastronomic market. Finally, the fourth section will feature the amphitheater, children’s play areas, and a large lake.

The park will have a 712-meter linear walkway and another circular one, a viewpoint, 8 train carriage concessions, an interactive fountain, an amphitheater with a capacity for 10,000 people, an artificial lake, a water mirror, 4 bathroom modules, a 2-kilometer recreational trail, a skating rink, and a boardwalk. The Gastronomic Market will include an island, an administrative office, 5 restaurants, and 41 stands. Additionally, there will be two museums: the Railroad Museum covering an area of 1,249 square meters and the Museum of Light covering an area of 5,094 square meters.

Furthermore, the park will have a parking lot with 301 spaces, a sports garden with a multipurpose court for soccer, touch football, volleyball, and other activities, an outdoor gym, a pet park covering an area of 1,562 square meters, and 4 children’s play zones.

Among the benefits of this plan, it stands out that it will give a better purpose to an area with much history, integrating it into the present and future of the region as a place for family gatherings where people can enjoy sports, recreational, cultural, and educational activities. Moreover, it will increase the number of visitors and make the most of the existing hotel offerings.

Subsequently, Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal inspected the progress in the construction of the Ie-Tram station, located in the Great Park of La Plancha, where the 3 routes of this 100% electric and unique public transportation system in Latin America will converge.

Accompanied by Rafael Hernández Kotasek, the director of the Institute of Mobility and Urban Territorial Development (IMDUT), Vila Dosal supervised the work carried out as part of this project, representing an investment of over 74 million pesos.

The station will include a loading patio, 5 bus bays, access doors to the bays with validators for electronic payment, spacious waiting areas, a second floor for the control center, as well as monitoring of the Ie-Tram.

Regarding this, Sergio Augusto Chan Lugo, the director of the Yucatán Road Infrastructure Institute (INCAY), mentioned that the current works consist of preliminary actions, land leveling, access plaza, medium and low-voltage electrical installations, and grounding.

Likewise, it includes the placement of sanitary facilities, hydraulic installations, voice and data installation, fire protection system, rainwater drainage system, construction of stage 1 platforms, rainwater wells, and autonomous LED lighting system.
