A serious accident involving three vehicles occurred on Monday afternoon on the Mérida-Cancún highway, resulting in one person being injured and extensive property damage. It is known that two of the vehicles were speeding, and one of them lost control while attempting to overtake.

The incident took place at kilometer 24+500 of the mentioned highway, involving a Volkswagen “Robust” pickup truck, belonging to the pork company Kekén, a compact Nissan “March” car, and a luxurious Land Rover.

The collision happened as the three vehicles were heading west to east towards Izamal, near the Bolón hacienda in the municipality of Seyé. One of the vehicles lost control and collided with the first vehicle.

As a result of the accident, the driver of the compact Nissan “March,” identified as Miguel Ángel Tun Calan, suffered various injuries to the body and head. He was taken to a hospital after being assessed by paramedics.

The drivers of the three vehicles, Enrique Briceño Vázquez, Jorge Castro Contreras, and Fernando Mut Tec, provided contradictory versions of the incident, leading to the need for an investigation to determine liability.

Adjusters from the insurance companies of the involved vehicles, along with officers from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) and municipal police of Seyé, arrived at the accident site to manage traffic and take control of the situation.

Fortunately, the road did not have to be closed to traffic due to the accident, preventing traffic congestion in the area.
