The ‘Dead Sea’ of Yucatán, where is it located?

Yucatán continues to amaze with its natural wonders, and as an example, it’s enough to visit the ‘Dead Sea.’

Similar to the Dead Sea in Jordan, the conditions of this place in Yucatán do not allow for the presence of animal life and cause humans to float as soon as they enter.

The high salt content prevents people from standing and practically forces them to float involuntarily.

This site has gained attention on social media after TikToker Óscar Morales visited this place located in the port of Las Coloradas. However, it is worth mentioning that this area is not a tourist site due to the conditions of the sea.

Where is the Dead Sea of Yucatán located?

As mentioned before, it is located in the port of Las Coloradas, which is in the municipality of Río Lagartos.

To reach Las Coloradas, you can take a bus to Tizimín from the city of Mérida at the bus terminal. However, you will need to get off at Río Lagartos.

From Río Lagartos, you can take a taxi to Las Coloradas, one of the emerging tourist stops in Yucatán.

If you are traveling by car, you can take the road to Tizimín and from there, follow the signs to Kikil and Río Lagartos. The estimated travel time to this place is approximately three hours from the capital city of Yucatán.

It is important to note that the so-called Dead Sea of Yucatán is not a tourist site due to the high salt concentration in the water.
