In another episode in the fight for their labor rights, professors and administrative staff from the Metropolitan Technological University (UTM) protested last Sunday morning on Paseo de Montejo, where they reiterated to the state government the demand for better working conditions.
More than 200 people who work at that university gathered at the Monumento a la Patria and walked to the Remate de Montejo while chanting slogans with their demands. The march was peaceful. Teachers showed a good spirit during the event.
Among the demands of the UTM employees is a salary increase of 8.2% announced by the state government and which the teachers of that institution have not received. In addition, they demand decent facilities, since, according to what they stated, the school bathrooms do not have water and the internet service is deficient.

The teachers also demand that their labor rights and years of service be recognized, since there are professors with up to 2 decades of service and without the benefits that other state educators have.
Representatives of the protesters stressed that their movement is apolitical and they are only fighting for their rights. In the last two weeks, the teachers have protested at the doors of the UTM, but they do so during breaks so that classes are not affected.
Weeks ago, the representatives of the teachers met with Mauricio Cámara Leal, Secretary of Research, Innovation and Higher Education (SIIES), and María Isabel Rodríguez Heredia, dean of the UTM. The meeting was unsuccessful since they did not obtain a satisfactory answer.
