Within the framework of International Dog Day, the Senator for Yucatán, Jorge Carlos Ramírez Marín calls for redoubling efforts for the care and respect of animals, for which it is necessary to create better laws that protect those who do not have a voice
“Dogs and pets in general and all living beings deserve respect and a legal framework that protects them, as well as their ecosystems, in the case of wodlife,” the legislator emphasized.
It is estimated that in Yucatán there are some 60,000 dogs living on the streets and more than 30 million throughout the country, not to mention that this abandonment problem worsened by 15% during the years of the pandemic, due to the fact that many families were left without sufficient resources to care for their pets.
In this sense, Ramírez Marín recognizes the enormous efforts made by associations and independent rescuers for the care and protection of these animals, since the actions carried out by the authorities have not been sufficient to solve this problem.
The legislator permanently collaborates with this cause, such as with the Peek’en Challenge where hundreds of kilos of food were donated to various shelters in the state so that they can continue their noble work.
In the same way, it maintains collaboration with some pet shelters and clinics.
