“For me, participating in these spaces is a great opportunity because I can showcase my products to more people and improve my income,” said María Belen Carlo Pérez, an artisan from Temozón, during the inauguration of the Fourth Women Entrepreneurs Fair promoted by the Secretary of Women (SEMUJERES) and the ADO Foundation.
Like her, 37 entrepreneurs and artisans are part of the fourth edition of the fair, which will take place from today until August 13th at the ADO Mérida Centro Histórico Terminal. This event is committed to promoting the economic autonomy of women, their empowerment, and a better quality of life, as instructed by Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal.
María Cristina Castillo Espinosa, head of SEMUJERES, explained that the participants come from 22 municipalities within the state, enabling them to reach new customers by tapping into the flow of travelers during this season.
She also thanked the ADO Foundation for providing a great platform for women from Acanceh, Cacalchén, Chocholá, Halachó, Izamal, Maní, Mérida, Motul, Peto, Progreso, Seyé, Sinanch, Tahmek, Tekax, Tekit, Telchac Puerto, Tinum, Tixkokob, Tzucacab, Umán, Xocchel, and Yaxcabá.
Likewise, she encouraged the public to support local commerce and visit the exhibition, open from 9 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon. Visitors can purchase products such as coconut crafts, henequen items, hand-embroidered goods, hammocks, artisanal soaps, woven baskets, hand-painted mirrors, wooden plates and cutlery, jams, sauces, costume jewelry accessories, and more.
Orquídea Alejandra de Lourdes Medina Carrillo, head of Peninsulares Volunteering at the ADO Foundation, stated that it’s an honor to promote the crafts and work carried out by Yucatecan women.
