A woman managed to escape from her captor after being kidnapped for 14 years in the region of Chelyabinsk, in the Urals, Russia.

According to investigators, her captor, a 37-year-old man, invited the victim to his home in the autumn of 2009 when she was 19 years old.

“As the captor’s mental condition worsened,” he forgot to lock the woman’s room, allowing her to escape and seek help from neighbors.

According to reports and testimonies, the man rarely left his house and did not turn on the lights.

Investigators also revealed that he was involved in a murder in 2011. The victim was reportedly a friend of the kidnapped woman.

“Currently, the man is under the supervision of law enforcement agents in a medical institution,” authorities reported.
