A young motorcyclist lost his life on Thursday, August 24th, after being brutally struck by a van in the Francisco I. Madero neighborhood in the western part of Mérida.
The unfortunate traffic incident occurred around 10:30 am on Thursday when the motorcyclist was riding on 35th Street, which had the right of way, and upon reaching the intersection with 28th Street, a van driven by a woman ran a red light, colliding with the young man.
The impact was so strong that the motorcyclist “bounced” and in turn collided with a moto taxi traveling in the opposite direction.
The collision was so severe that the young man suffered fractures in both legs and his right arm, but apparently, a blow to the head had taken his life.
Officers from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) and paramedics arrived at the scene, who unfortunately only confirmed the absence of vital signs in the motorcyclist.
Meanwhile, the driver, who allegedly ran the red light, was detained at the scene and would be taken to the prosecutor’s office to answer for the probable offense of involuntary manslaughter.
The area was cordoned off by SSP personnel, awaiting the State Investigation Police and the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) to remove the deceased’s body. Information from Novedades Yucatán.
