A man in Bosnia killed his ex-wife and livestreamed it on Instagram. He also murdered two other individuals before taking his own life on Friday, as reported by the police and media.
The police in the city of Tuzla, in northeastern Bosnia, stated in a press release that aside from the three deceased, three other individuals were injured before the murderer committed suicide.
Bosnia has yet to fully recover from a brutal war in the 1990s, and violence against women is widespread, but this murder shocked the Balkan country.
Prosecutors in Tuzla stated that after killing his ex-wife, the assailant, armed with a pistol, shot and killed a man and his son on a street in the nearby city of Gradacac. He also wounded a police officer, another man, and a woman in different locations in the northeastern city of Bosnia.
Authorities did not immediately provide more details or possible motives for the incident. Officials and the media mentioned that the woman had reported threats and violence from her former partner and that the man, identified by Gradacac police as Nermin Sulejmanovic, had a criminal record.
The man posted a video on Instagram on Friday morning, in which he stated that a live murder would be shown. He is then seen grabbing a pistol and shooting the woman in the forehead, with a child’s scream heard nearby. The video was later deleted.
While being pursued, Sulejmanovic livestreamed two more videos on Instagram, in which he claimed to have shot at least two more people while fleeing. Authorities said around 12,000 people witnessed the live murder, and the video received 126 “likes.”
Local media reported that 35-year-old Sulejmanovic was a fitness coach and had previously been arrested for drug trafficking and assaulting a police officer.
The police stated that individuals who wrote supportive messages on the man’s Instagram posts on Friday will be questioned and could potentially face legal consequences.
