Following the arrest of Marco Antonio “N” for the homicide of an elderly man in the western area of Mérida, more details have come to light about this recent crime. It has been revealed that after taking the life of the elderly man at a property in the Libertad neighborhood, he transported the body to the Nueva Mulsay housing development and disposed of it in a vacant lot.

Originally, the homicide was reported to have occurred in the Sambulá neighborhood, but it has now been clarified that it took place in Libertad.

Between the night of Sunday, August 6, and the morning of Monday, August 7, the now-detained individual fatally assaulted Mr. R.J.M.M. for reasons that have not been clarified. Both individuals lived on the same property.

Subsequently, he transported the body through several streets until leaving it abandoned in a vacant lot on 87-A Street with 79-A Street in the Nueva Mulsay housing development.

It was on the 7th that the nephew of the elderly man reported his disappearance to the authorities, as he did not find him at home when he came to deliver food. This marked the beginning of the search for the man, which extended over several days.

On August 17, residents of the Nueva Mulsay housing development reported a foul smell emanating from the vacant lot. When officers from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) arrived, they discovered the decomposing body of R.J.M.M. After its retrieval by the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) and thorough investigations, the presumed responsibility of Marco Antonio “N” was established.

In a hearing held at the Mérida Oral Justice Center on Monday, the prosecution formally charged the accused with the crime. However, the bond hearing will not take place until Friday, August 25, before the Second Control Judge.

Before concluding the judicial proceedings, it was requested that mandatory preventive detention be applied as a precautionary measure. The judge granted this request for the entire duration of the legal process.
