Two thieves were arrested last Thursday night in Chicxulub Puerto in the middle of an intense police operation and the help of the local residents.

The event occurred when residents of the Miguel Hidalgo neighborhood of that Progreso police station noticed two men walking on the street carrying a wheelbarrow, loot from an alleged robbery.

The witnesses called more residents and the police, who arrived at Calle 34 between 27 and 29. The officers spoke with the residents, who expressed their annoyance at the incessant wave of robberies that have occurred in this place for years.

The neighbors demanded immediate action from the officers. The agents went to a property identified as the base of operations of an alleged gang, located at the intersection of 34th and 27th streets. A subject lives in that place, who was identified with the nickname “El Chango”, which has been searched on several occasions, because according to the neighbors, suspicious people are usually seen on the site at all times, during the day and mainly at dawn, when they come to hide valuables, presumably stolen.

In the middle of the conversation with the officers, a man approached the place, who was identified by one of the neighbors identified as the alleged thief, and was arrested. Shortly after, “El Chango” was arrested as well.
