The dengue epidemic that has been impacting Yucatán for several weeks has resulted in the death of a 7-year-old child in this municipality in the eastern part of the region.
Tizimín is one of the hardest-hit areas by this disease, to the extent that last week there were reports of local hospitals clicnics overwhelmed by the number of dengue cases.
The family of the child, a resident of the Sebastián Molas neighborhood, mentioned that three days ago the young boy began to have a fever, and when they took him to a private doctor, he was diagnosed with dengue.
The child’s mother requested an ambulance and paramedics because the child was experiencing difficulty breathing and was unconscious.
When the paramedics arrived at the house and assessed the child, he was already unresponsive.
The Yucatán Health Secretariat stated that 10 percent of the dengue cases that reach the Agustín O’Horán Hospital, the most important hospital in the state, are severe, and they are mainly affecting minors.
