A zone of destruction was recorded in the afternoon of Tuesday in the eastern part of Mérida, after the fall of four utility poles and two trees was reported due to the strong winds that hit the area.
According to the information gathered, on the afternoon of August 1st, a strong thunderstorm caused significant damage in the Amalia Solórzano neighborhood, where at least four wooden and concrete utility poles fell.
Initial reports indicate that a Telmex utility pole snapped in half, while a concrete pole was uprooted from its base, causing damage to a parked Ford vehicle next to the pole.
On the other hand, two more poles belonging to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) shifted from their natural position and were leaning at a 45-degree angle, on the verge of falling.
Following the strong winds, a crew from the Mérida City Council arrived at the scene to carry out necessary actions.
Elements from the Department of Public Security (SSP) were also present, cordoning off the area awaiting personnel from Telmex and CFE, who took care of their respective parts, as the cables they supported ended up lying on the ground.
