 8 cooperatives from the Tekax, Maxcanú, Opichén, Muna and Yaxcabá municipalities received equipment and tools to carry out their nature and adventure tourism activities to provide a higher quality service to visitors.

Tekax, Yucatán on July 28, 2023. The Yucatán Tourism Development Secretariat (Sefotur) is carrying out a scheduled delivery of support to different Tourist Cooperatives by region, with the objective that these have the necessary tools and equipment to carry out their activities and provide visitors with quality experiences, as part of the Tourism Decentralization and Diversification Policy, which is part of the actions of the Governor, Mauricio Vila Dosal.

Therefore, on July 27, the head of Sefotur, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, representing Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal, took advantage of her visit to Tekax “Magic Town” to officially deliver support to eight Tourism Cooperatives of the Ruta Puuc and Aldeas Mayas region, who received a total of 70 caps, 4 portable radios, 15 safety carabiners, 15 safety helmets, 11 ropes of 60 meters each, 15 harnesses, 2 binoculars, 40 jerseys, 2 removable pants, 3 headlamps, and 30 life jackets.

“At Sefotur we know that yes, it is about promoting and attracting tourism, but also about having something to work with and fortunately we already have more and more with that. We are happy to procure and deliver this equipment, to support our tourist guides, which are the ones that materialize and complete all the work that we do behind the office, to improve the tourist experience, so that they leave happy and wanting to return, “commented the secretary when making use of the word.

“We work from our eight areas to meet these objectives, we have a training area, that of attracting investment to attract more hotels, restaurants, and parks, to grow our tourist offer, we have worked with our infrastructure area where worked on interventions in Tekax, improvements to the Ermita, the market, what can be seen in Maní, in Sisal, in Progreso and the innovation area of ​​new product development of course”, he added.

Fridman Hirsch, who was accompanied by the Municipal President of Tekax, Pueblo Mágico, Diego José Ávila Romero, and SEFOTUR Undersecretary for Sustainable Tourism Development, Jorge Lerma Nava, handed over the aforementioned equipment to the representatives of the Grutas de Actun Usil cooperatives. from Maxcanu; of Calcehtok Caves; the Mulnaj Cooperative of Muna; Shocking Caves, Kaalmankal Caves and Sartenejas Caves of Tekax; in addition to the Yaxunah Tourist Parador and the Yokdzonot Zaaz Koolen Haá Cooperative.

It is worth noting that, since the beginning of the administration, Sefotur has worked in coordination with the localities for the development and improvement of new products. Specifically, in the municipalities of Tekax, Maxcanú, Opichén, Muna, and Yaxcabá, training has been provided to tourism service providers in person and online, ranging from Diplomas in Training of Tourist Guides of NOM 09, tourist English, Vertical Progression Techniques applied to Speleology; Speleotourism; Hospitality and Service Quality; Hygienic Food Handling; Security, First Aid, and Food Emergency Management; Design of New Tourist Experiences; Quality and Standardization in the Service; Actions for the inclusion of people with disabilities and New Sustainable Experiences in Yucatan, among many others, for the benefit of more than 300 tourism service providers.

The first delivery of support to the Tourist Cooperatives took place in the port of Sisal on July 21, where 13 cooperatives from the Riviera Yucatán region, from the municipalities of Celestún, Hunucmá, Progreso, Telchac, Sinanché, and Dzilam de Bravo They were benefited with equipment and work items, these supports still need to be delivered in the “Yucatán Cenotes and Haciendas” regions, in “Mérida, Cultural and Gastronomic Capital of the South” and in the “Capital Mundo Maya” region.

Since 2019, in Yucatán, there are 203 new tourist products in the six tourist regions into which the state is divided, which gave rise to the 365 days and 365 Flavors campaigns in Yucatán and whose success was reflected in the increase in the tourism indicators for 2022, where the majority of the tourism sector recovered after the pandemic and that, during the first five months of 2023, the Mérida City airport has exceeded all historically recorded records, for which reason it is expected that At the end of the year, the figure of 3.1 million visitors registered at the end of 2022 is exceeded.
