Dengue is rampant in the Yucatán, which has put authorities at different levels into action, including some that until a month ago had not done anything in terms of preventive activities.
Among what is being carried out is a nebulization plan of the state government, which yesterday arrived to Akil and will be in Chumayel and Panabá.
In the plan, which also includes neighborhoods in Mérida, Dr. Carlos Isaac Hernández Fuentes, director of Prevention and Health Protection for the state government, urged the inhabitants to leave their windows open when they hear the vehicles with fumigation teams circulate through their streets, thereby allowing the insecticide to penetrate their homes.
“Continuously, since the beginning of the present administration we have carried out fumigation, nebulization, and larval control operations for the benefit of the inhabitants,” he pointed out and said that the works conclude until the indicated routes have full coverage.
In Tizimín, the mayor Pedro Couoh Suaste, who until a month ago said that preventive tasks against dengue were the responsibility of the health sector, announced yesterday the purchase of “sophisticated equipment, unique in Yucatán”, for which they paid $270,000 ” cash”.
In other parts of the State, in Progreso, yesterday it was learned of the death of a child due to dengue hemorrhagic fever. The child was not from the port, but his relatives work in Progreso.
In Progreso, a doctor pointed out yesterday that there are high cases of dengue, and every day they attend to children, young people, and adults with symptoms.
To safeguard the health of all the inhabitants of the state, the Yucatan Health Secretariat (SSY) maintains preventive actions against dengue, these tasks include neighborhoods and subdivisions in Mérida, as well as in the municipalities of the interior of the state, reported Hernández Fuentes.
Dr. Hernández Fuentes reminded the population to take into account the fumigation schedules, which start at 3 a.m. and in the evening shift from 6:40 p.m., the works conclude until the indicated routes have full coverage.
Also, he reported that the agency has visited 373,384 homes to do larval control work and 23,685 homes have been fumigated. Added to these activities is the misting of 293,000 acres with fumigation equipment mounted on vehicles.
These preventive measures are essential to avoid the proliferation of mosquitoes and, consequently, prevent and control dengue.
According to the director, Yucatán is a state where due to its tropical climate conditions in these rainy seasons the presence of flies increases, for this reason, the indication of the head of the SSY in the state, Mauricio Sauri Vivas, has been not to lower the guard.
“In this sense, in the campaigns to eliminate hatcheries inside homes and in coordination with the municipal authorities, there has been a good participation of the citizens,” he stressed.
