Yucatan ports are closed to minor navigation until further notice

Due to the proximity of tropical storm “Idalia”, all the ports of Yucatan are closed to minor navigation until further notice, reported State Civil Protection on Sunday, August 27th.

With the closure of the ports, the departures of recreational and fishing boats were suspended, which affected the boatmen who offer tourist tours in destinations such as Río Lagartos and the fishermen catching octopus and other species.

The Secretary of the Navy requested extreme precautions when sailing in the Caribbean Sea because there are rains, gusts of strong wind, and high waves due to “Idalia”, which is heading to Florida, USA.

At 9:15 in the morning on Sunday, August 27th, tropical depression 10 became cyclone “Idalia” 135 km east-southeast of Cozumel and 175 km from Tulum, reported the United States National Hurricane Center and the Service. National Meteorological System (SMN) of Mexico.

The ports of San Felipe, Río Lagartos, Las Coloradas and El Cuyo (Tizimín) were the first to be closed to minor navigation until further notice due to the proximity of the tropical storm “Idalia”, Yucatan Civil Protection reported yesterday at 10:36 a.m.

Follow the blue alert

Likewise, the agency maintained the blue alert (of minimal danger due to the approach or departure of a cyclone), which it activated on the afternoon of the day before Saturday, August 26th, for 59 of the 106 municipalities of the state, located in the perimeter that goes from Telchac Puerto to Tizimín (on the coast, from North to East) and from there to Peto, passing from the Center of the state, to the South through Dzemul, Tixkokob, Seyé, Homún, Huhí, Sotuta, Cantamayec and Tahdziú.

At 6 in the afternoon, the SMN reported that Río Lagartos registered five millimeters of rain; while Catemaco, Veracruz registered fifteen millimeters.
