Claudia Sheinbaum, who last night was announced as Defense Coordinator of the Fourth Transformation, received on Thursday, September 7th, the “Baton of Command” from the hands of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador during a private ceremony.
The handover took place in a restaurant in Mexico City’s Historic Center.
The same place where, on the night of June 5, AMLO issued the call to elect the new Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation.
On that occasion, as on this day, the Morena’s “Corcholatas” and governors of that party were summoned by their boss.
Hours before the handover, Sheinbaum affirmed that she felt up to the circumstances and was proud to receive the baton from the hands of President López Obrador.
“Receiving this baton is a pride, a privilege, and, in addition, we will rise to the occasion because we will always call for unity and to build not only the movement but the triumph of what lies ahead”, she said.
In his morning conference on Tuesday, September 5, the federal chief executive gave a preview of his message for the handing over of the baton.
He assured that this represents the desire for change and transformation.
“Here I hand you this baton that represents the desire for change and transformation of millions of Mexicans, of those who are the protagonists of this history, which we represent. I have been leading the process, now it is your turn to move forward”, he said that morning while miming the handover.
That day he also said that the winner of the internal poll would receive his support and that he would use his last year of government to finish his work.
“I am going to hand over the baton to the person leading the transformation movement and I will stay one year governing to continue helping the people, consolidate the transformation, complete the works, that’s what we are talking about.
After winning the Morena poll, Sheinbaum made a call to the party’s militants to unite and even mentioned that the doors were open for Marcelo Ebrard and his team to join her project.
