Through the Arborizing Yucatan strategy, the government of Yucatan has distributed, to date, more than 900,000 trees in 97 municipalities, representing 2,774.05 hectares planted with trees.

At the beginning of Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal’s administration, the initial goal of planting 600,000 trees with this strategy was established, so that with the tasks carried out to date, it can be translated into 150 percent progress, with respect to the original goal, thanks to the joint work done with society.

It is important to highlight that Arborizing Yucatan has several aspects, including One Child, One Tree, which was implemented in all public elementary schools in the state so that the students of these schools have a program where environmental culture and education topics are developed.

Likewise, and recently, the strategy Arborizing Yucatan in your University was promoted, where the participation of young people is reinforced, who contribute to the actions and, as part of the program, will be visiting all the universities in the state to continue with the reforestation work.

In addition, as part of the commitments agreed in the Agenda 2050, in conjunction with the City of Merida, to contribute to the planning of green infrastructure in the Yucatan capital, to date, a total of 236,713 trees have been delivered and planted, representing 729.94 hectares, distributed in public areas such as parks, elementary schools, universities, as well as private homes through the donation of native plants in neighborhoods and police stations.

Through the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (SDS), this tree planting strategy is being implemented in the municipalities of the interior of the state, as well as in parks and neighborhoods of Mérida.

The goals of this program include actions to guarantee the environmental services provided by native trees, strengthening the state’s biodiversity, as well as promoting the sustainable use of natural resources. This is why 100,000 native plants are provided each year as part of this strategy, thanks to the participation of society, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and municipalities through various events to cover 333.33 hectares reforested and planted with trees per year.

To this effect, the native plant production scheme was strengthened in the five nurseries of the government of Yucatan in order to guarantee the adequate reproduction of 75 native tree species that have a high percentage of adaptation and reforestation.
