Canine saves more than 70 turtles in Yucatan

PROGRESO, YUCATAN – An image circulated on social networks of a little dog named Aika, who was a key player in the rescue of more than 70 turtles in Chuburna Puerto, in the municipality of Progreso, on the coast of Yucatan.

The owners of the ‘puppy’ shared that Aika was playing with some children when she started barking desperately towards the plants.

The family went to the site and found the turtles, which were hatching.

The animals were subsequently taken into custody and handed over to the authorities.

It should be noted that the coasts of Yucatan are currently in the middle of turtle hatching season.

For this reason, authorities recommend extreme caution on the beaches, such as avoiding driving in cars or on ATVs.
