The Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, announced that in December, the Yum-Kaax market will begin operations in Chetumal, offering imported products at low prices.
The governor emphasized during the presidential morning press conference with President Andrés Manuel López that this event will restore Chetumal’s status as a duty-free commercial zone, ensuring that the capital of Quintana Roo will “shine again” after 30 years.
The governor also mentioned that more than 230 young people are currently studying the Railway Technical Career at the Cancún-Chetumal Campus and the Railway Engineering Career at the Cancún Campus of the National Technological Institute of Mexico.
Furthermore, she announced the opening of a Master’s program in Railway Design and Construction.
On another note, the Mexican Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) reported that three segments of the Tren Maya project under their responsibility have progress rates of less than 44%.
Providing an update on the progress of the Tren Maya project, General Blas Andrés Nuñez stated that Segment 5 North (from Cancún to Playa del Carmen) has a 43.2% progress rate, while Segment 6 (from Tulum to Chetumal) has reached 44.2% progress, and finally, Segment 7 (from Chetumal to Escárcega) is at 44.11% progress.
