Yucatán is in the midst of a growth in real estate developments and civil works in general, including the vertical, which is regulated by the municipality and in which collegiate bodies could assist in the matter in terms of monitoring quality and compliance with construction standards, said the president of the Society of Civil Engineers of Yucatán (CICY for its acronym in Spanish), Alfredo Rubén Várguez Pérez.

During an interview he indicated that the town councils are in charge of granting permits for the development of works and, at the time of construction, ensuring that the construction regulations are respected, which is where the minimum specifications that must be met in the works are established, including the structural part and safety, which are assessed by a Municipal Construction Expert (PCM in Spanish).

Várguez Pérez said that within the Society of Civil Engineers that he heads, they have up to 160 certified professionals in the field to carry out this important work, to whom builders can turn.

He invited those interested to go to the school’s PCM, who can assist in this matter by following up with their partners in ensuring that not only the necessary safety specifications are fully complied with, but also in terms of finishes and things that may be important and agreed upon for the home being worked on.

On the other hand, it was stated that last year a document with proposals and observations on the Municipality’s Construction Regulations was sent to the authority, so they are waiting for a new modification to this document.

The president of this collegiate body reported that more than anything it is about the assessment of all the points where descriptive details have been refined, in some cases by the new construction technology systems, such as permeable areas, roofs, and green walls, Well, he said, “they are actions that are changing, they are dynamic and they have to be properly incorporated into the regulations so that citizens can apply them correctly.

He concluded by commenting that, in addition to these active actions by the Society of Civil Engineers of Yucatán, last June they launched a mobility campaign aimed at pedestrians.
